Our company will be performing Interviews and Orientations for employment openings near Southwest Detroit. There will be a variety of different jobs available. You will be working on a dock, moving shipment (cargo) from boats to a warehouse. There is steel coils, steel plates, steel slabs, steel bars, and wire rods. A variety of services that include truck, rail car and barge loading and unloading, container stuffing and stripping, securing, cargo sorting, cargo assembling and short and long term storage. Description of Positions: Stevedore/dock worker/vessel-A stevedore must be able to bend over and pick up at least 70 pounds of weight. He must be able to pick up one end of a braided lifting strap and feed (guide) it through the eye of a steel coil. This braided lifting strap must be connected to a crane hook. He must be able to climb a ship's ladder, approximately 50 feet, at least twice a day. Typical trips up and down the ship's ladder will usually be six to ten a day. These ladders are usually perpendicular to the ground (straight up and down). He must have proper balance to work on top of cargo including, steel coils, steel plates, slabs, bars and wire rod. These working surfaces are usually not level and spaced apart. Warehouse/General/Checker-A checker must be able to bend over and pick up at least 30 pounds of weight. He must be able to work outside in the elements, under any weather conditions. He must be able to read identifying markings on cargo and move himself in manners to be able to see the entire cargo which could be from ground level to about 5 feet high. He must be able to communicate in writing, amounts and quantities of commodities, including condition and description. Elementary mathematical computations, including adding and subtracting are required. Full use of both arms with the ability to use fingers and hands to effectively communicate to the dockside crew and lift truck operations is necessary. Requirements and Specifications:Must be able to lift between 30 pounds and 70 poundsNo fear of heights. Ladders can reach down to 62 feet into ship. Able to walk up and down ladders some approximately 50 feet.Must be able to read markings on cargo and have basic math skills.Must be able to work in all outside elements under any weather conditionsForklift positions must have certificationRequired use of all personal protection equipment/clothing must be brought to the job site and worn at ALL times.Complete background check and drug screening test given Other Specifications: Training will be 1 hour of paid training before you can start the job. This ad is to schedule Interviews first and then Orientation class.No one is guaranteed a certain amount of hours each week. Pay ranges between $9.00 and $11.00 hourly and paid weekly. Position is always 1st shift, start time at 745AM PART TIME that could lead to FULL TIME
