WSP is currently initiating a search for a Transportation Engineer I. This role will be based in Detroit, Michigan, providing one of our important clients with services in traffic engineering and traffic operations. The WSP Michigan office is located in Detroit and the candidate could also be expected to work on projects that cover transportation planning, operations, design and road safety.

Specifically, this person will be involved in:

* Assisting in providing technical advisory services to the Macomb County in the area of traffic operations as an Engineer on the Communications & Technology Center (COMTEC) team.
* Transportation engineering/planning/asset management/design and road safety with other potential clients.
* Preparing analyses, designs, presentations and reports as required.
* Undertaking traffic engineering and transportation planning projects: Traffic studies, Non-motorized planning, Traffic impact studies, Transportation modeling, Traffic management plans
* Undertaking road safety projects: Road Safety Audits (RSA), Crash analysis, Highway Safety Manual analysis, Transportation Safety Planning/Management
* Undertaking transportation design projects: Traffic design (signals, pavement markings, signing, work zones), Roadway design
* Developing and strengthening existing skills and delivery transportation projects in accordance with client requirements and in line with company and industry best practice.
* Understanding of MDOT processes and policies as they relate to transportation engineering.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

* Engineering degree with a focus on transportation. A higher-level qualification in transportation would be an advantage.
* Good knowledge of relevant design codes, standards, legislation and practices that apply to the work you are undertaking.

Minimum Qualifications:

* 0-1 years of transportation engineering experience
* B.S., Civil Engineering or related engineering degree
* Ability to work effectively and competently with people at all levels in the organization; is a great team member
* Ability to work without supervision; effective time management and strong organizational skills
* Contribute on an on-going basis toward maintaining a safe working environment both for yourself and for those working with you or in your close vicinity
* Good computer skills with knowledge of relevant software tools, in particular Word, Excel and AutoCAD, and an ability to apply new tools
* Ability to work to deadlines and see tasks through to completion
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Good analytical skills and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

* Knowledge and experience with any of the following software is a plus: Synchro, SimTraffic, Microstation, or traffic signal controller software
* Local candidates preferred
