Job Title: Environmental Justice and Political InternDepartment: Michigan Chapter
Reports to: Associate Organizing Representative
Location: Detroit, MI
Duration:
* 12 hrs/week, 13 weeks @ $15 per hour
* Flexible scheduling, primarily during business hours (9am-6pm)
* Housed in our Detroit office, located at 2727 Second Avenue, but during the pandemic, staff, volunteers and interns are working virtually from home.
Scope: The Sierra Club Michigan Environmental Justice and Political Internship will focus on assisting Sierra Club national and Chapter staff based in Detroit in protecting the environment and public health through community education and organizing about EJ and political issues in Detroit and Wayne County. The intern will take on activities that assist Sierra Club in expanding its effectiveness in supporting communities facing environmental injustice, especially in Detroit, Ecorse, River Rouge, and Dearborn, and building a base for political and county power.
Job Activities:
* Organize one virtual event a month
* Working to build our base of volunteers in impacted communities
* Creating digital communications to support organizing efforts
Knowledge & Skills:
* Good writing and research skills
* Knowledge or interest in environmental issues
* Knowledge or interest in politics and the legislative process
* Able to take direction on projects and work independently
* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
* Experience with Google drive, Facebook, Twitter, blogs, and email
* Bonus if applicants are familiar with database management applications like the Voter Activation Network (VAN) and Salesforce.
This is a paid internship open to older high school, college, and trade school students.
This is a category 99 non-exempt, non-represented temporary position.
