Spring/Summer 2021 Internship

This is a remote position, the selected candidate can reside and perform the work from anywhere within the United States.

OnStar Vehicle Insights (OVI) is a telematics platform and product line developed for Business to Business (B2B), Business to Dealer (B2D) and B2B2C/B2D2C customers. The platform provides the intelligence and insights needed to maximize return on investment, efficient operations, and safety of our customers vehicle fleets and drivers. As an intern you will explore and develop new opportunities that leverage core capabilities and/or lead to new features and the evolution to an Internet of Things (IoT) platform. This is an exciting, high impact role defining one of GMs leading Software as a Service (SaaS) platforms to drive measurable growth aligned to GMs corporate vision for zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion future. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives collaborating with a team to lead the strategic development, testing, and sizing of new opportunities.

This role will be based in the Detroit Renaissance Center

Responsibilities include:

  • Working within the broader OVI and cross-functional teams to evaluate new business concepts including assessing our right to win and the size of the opportunity
  • Conduct market research and interviews to determine the market opportunity size for each project
  • Develop and assess the competitive landscape, including product and pricing as well as market presence
  • Collaborate with our cross functional partners including GMIT, Engineering, Marketing, Finance, etc. to develop a Minimal Viable product (MVP) to quickly gain customer acceptance and insights

Skills and capabilities

  • Imagination: Always looking for a different, non-traditional path. Asking why not? (Versus why?). Seek change. Search for differentiation. Continuously curious.
  • Ambiguity: Comfortable working in whitespace (new areas/concepts)
  • Invention: Recognize and identify the key factors to create new businesses and growth options and convert them into viable alternate scenarios. Draft the plan to make these businesses real (commercialization).
  • Communication and Relationship building: Ability to work with all levels within General Motors globally and across functional boundaries e.g. finance, purchasing, vehicle development, legal and build trust with customers, partners, and other external stakeholders.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing first year MBA

  • 2+ years of Strategy, Business Development, Entrepreneurship or Automotive Experience

  • Proven proficiency crafting and presenting compelling stories to all levels of the organization

  • Experience gathering customer insights by applying human-centered Design Thinking principles

The median level of the monthly salary compensation for this role is $4500 dependent upon class status and degree. Benefit options are not available for this role.
