The Detroit Police Department welcomes individuals who are looking to enter an exciting career in law enforcement. With more than 2,500 law enforcement officers, covering more than 139 square miles and a population in excess of 670,000 residents, this is why you should join DPD: - Starting pay is over $20/Hr. while attending the Police Academy - Ability to work Secondary Employment starting at $28/hr. up to 32 hrs./week (additional pay) - Standby Pay for certain assignments (paid for up 16 hrs./week) - Maximum pay after Five (5) years is over $30/Hour - Overtime available (at the Department's needs) - Uniform and equipment provided - Up to $2000 in Tuition Reimbursement - Education Incentive 2% additional pay for 60 credit hours or more - Special appointments to Neighborhood Police Officer (NPO) or Training Corporal by the Chief - Promotion to Detective and Sergeant (exam) with a minimum of two years (bachelor's degree) - Retirement Plan (20 years minimum or vested at 10 years) - No maximum age (minimum 18 years old to be hired) - Over 100 Units, including patrol, undercover, plainclothes assignment, Special Response Team (SRT), Aviation, K-9, Bomb Squad, Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), Peer Support Unit, Internal Affairs, Criminal Intelligence Unit, Homicide Unit, Special Victims Unit (SVU), ability to work as a Task Force Officer (TFO) with County, State and Federal partners, in addition to other special assignments.
