Description



The Gordie Howe International Bridge project is a once-in-a-generation undertaking. Not only will the project deliver much-needed transportation improvements for international travelers, it will also provide jobs and opportunities for growth to the Windsor-Detroit region and includes features that make this project truly distinctive.

The project is being delivered through a public-private partnership (P3). A public-private partnership is a long-term performance- based approach to procuring public infrastructure where the private sector assumes a major share of the risks in terms of financing and construction and ensuring effective performance of the infrastructure, from design and planning, to long-term maintenance.

This position provides technical support to craft and supervision on the project. Also supports Quality by providing Quality oversight in their daily activities, as required.
Perform construction engineering work requiring application of standard construction engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria in performing a sequence of related construction engineering tasks
Assist craftsmen and foreman with regard to construction-related issues identified on drawings
Perform surveillance/examinations, if required, to ensure that the Quality objectives are being met for the project
Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines
Monitor construction schedule, cost and quality, using job cost reports and other various documents to ensure project goals are met
Works with Utility/Electrical/ITS superintendent to direct and coordinate personnel to ensure project progresses safely, on schedule, within all quality standards, and within prescribed budget
Manage multiple subcontractors for Private utility work and coordinate with various disciplines to ensure project schedule is met
Point of Contact with the Engineer of Record (EOR) and interfaces with the main Designer as the design develops from concept to construction.
Reviews shop drawings and work plans of various sub-consultants and suppliers ensuring that compliance is met with all Project plans and specifications
Coordinate directly with Private Utility owners, WDBA and MDOT

Basic Job Requirements

Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in engineering field of study and two (2) years of work-related experience; a recognized certification or registration in the applicable field, if required; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner

Preferred Qualifications

DOT project experience is preferred
Construction Management degree or global equivalent
Typically has three (3) years of project experience
Ability to speak/read multiple languages
Basic computer and software skills to include the use of word processing and email as well as the basic use of spreadsheets
