New video board, sound system will rock Calihan Hall

A lot of exciting things are happening at historic Calihan Hall.

The athletic department is installing a new video board and sound system.

The scoreboard will have screens on it, allowing a new experience for fans.

This new fan experience will bring a new type of atmosphere to Calihan Hall.

Athletic Director Robert Vowels said the scoreboard will show replays, advertisements and features like, of course, the famous kiss cam.

“I talked to alums, fans, and coaches, and one of the biggest areas we needed to improve was fan experience and engagement,” said Vowels. “With the new scoreboard and sound system, I feel confident that there will be a dramatic increase in the atmosphere inside of Calihan Hall.”

UDM employee Drew Westrick is one of the key people involved in the scoreboard and sound improvements.

“Both projects involve a lot of planning, but everyone can see the commitment we have to our fan base, alumni, coaches and student-athletes,” he said. “Calihan Hall is already a great place to watch a game and the video board and sound system are just going to add to that.”

There is so much excitement going around Calihan Hall for this upcoming season, it is tough to not mention it.

Men’s’ basketball coach Ray McCallum thinks the improvements will make a huge difference.

“This is a game-changer for our program and fans,” he said. “The new video board will improve the game-day atmosphere inside Calihan Hall and help us continue to recruit top-notch student-athletes in our ultimate quest to win championships.”

Athletes are also excited about the new experience – and especially the replay feature.
