Campus focus is on hunger this week

This week is National Hunger and Homelessness week and in recognition UDM has several events planned.

Tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 19, a “leadership slam” featuring Janet Lawson, director of the Ford Volunteer Corps and Ford Mobile Food Pantry Program, will be held in C & F 228 from 12:45 to 2 p.m. and again from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Also on Thursday is the Orphan Relief Dinner sponsored by the Muslim Student Organization (MSO) in the Student Center Ballroom at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for faculty.

There will be a guest speaker from Helping Hands, an organization through which the MSO is sponsoring an orphan.

On Friday, volunteers will fill food baskets with turkey dinner supplies from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Fountain Lounge. Baskets will be donated to Peggy’s Place and Lake Ridge Village.

Alpha Phi Omega will be sponsoring a service trip to Gleaner’s Food Bank on Saturday, Nov. 21 from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

A canned food drive benefiting Campus Kitchen, as well as a “No Wasted Food Pledge” initiative, will be held in the Titan Dining Room and the McNichols campus library.

Canned good donations may be dropped off at any event during the week or in the Student Life Office in the Student Center. University Ministry will be constructing a Fountain Lounge canned good labyrinth to display donations.
