Campus pays tribute to vets

In honor of the brave men and women of the U.S. service, the Student Programming Board partnered with Student Life Office to host their annual Veterans Day program Nov. 11.

The commemoration began with the National Anthem sung by student Ashe’ Lewis and an opening prayer by student Akilea McKay.

Student Vershay Burks and Adam Hollman, assistant director of student life, introduced the speakers, all from the Michigan Veterans Foundation.

Each spoke about the ups and downs of war and its aftermath.

It was an emotional event.

“Many people don’t know that several of us veterans are left without homes and income when we come back. It’s hard,” said a tearful U.S. Army veteran, Tadzia Stanley-Lett.

The ceremony wrapped up with a closing prayer that put thanks and gratitude into the hearts of the audience.
