Temperature rising?

The Titans are getting hot at the right time.

Over the last eight games, the red, white and blue have won six of eight, including four on the road.

Prior to this run, Detroit was 0-8 away from the friendly confines of Calihan Hall.

This stretch Detroit has been led by Paris Bass, Anton Wilson and Carlton Brundidge.

Bass has averaged 19 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

Wilson has tallied 12.8 points per game, with 2.7 assists and 2.5 rebounds over the last eight games.

The biggest surprise over this winning streak has been Brundidge, known as “CB.”

He has averaged 12.9 points, 2.9 assists and 5.8 rebounds over the last eight games.

He has also been inserted into the starting line-up in the last four games and has averaged over 30 minutes over the last three.

Brundidge, Wilson and Bass could all be playing their last seasons of college basketball.

Brundidge and Wilson are seniors. Wilson has for sure played his final game at home, but that may not be true for Bass and Brundidge.

Brundidge, a fifth-year senior, has hinted he may apply for a sixth year having not played much at Michigan, due to extenuating circumstances.

Bass has NBA aspirations, and has had scouts at every game this season.

No one knows if Brundidge will get another year or if Bass will declare for the draft, but Detroit has gotten hot at the right time.

Detroit will take on Oakland this Friday at 9 p.m.

Then the Titans will have a week off before starting the Horizon League Tournament close to home at Joe Louis Arena in March.

NOTES

– Matt Grant has been missing in action the last three games, though there has been no official word given by UDM.

– Oakland University’s athletic director and director of men’s basketball operations were each suspended by the Horizon League for the Sunday game against UIC. Horizon League officials said this was for a “violation of the league’s sportsmanship policy.”

It has been reported that the individuals involved may have made remarks about the officials during Friday’s game against Valpalraiso, which clinched its fourth regular season Horizon League title in the past five years Sunday after beating Detroit.

Valpo will have the number one seed in the Horizon League Tournament.
