UDM futsol draws competitors

On April 12, 2016

Three-by-three futsol is in full swing at the fitness center as the school year draws to a close.

It may not be as well known as basketball or volleyball, but for those who enjoy it, futsol can be competitive.

It is essentially a version of soccer with quirks that make it slightly different.

First and foremost, it is played indoors and spikes are not necessary for play.

The field of play is obviously smaller as well as the ball, and the number of players on the field is drastically fewer.

However, unlimited substitutions are allowed to keep players fresh and energized.

Besides these deviations, it is comparable to soccer.

There are goalkeepers on both teams and the overall feel of the game is extremely close.

With the small teams, intramural futsol at UDM is bound to be a fast paced, and in many cases, high scoring affair.

So far, UDM Dental leads the standings with a 2-0 record. The other four teams are UDM Law, F.C. Soccer Team, Sigma Pi and Crew.

Futsol offers a fun and fast rendition of soccer that could attract many fans to join its following and give it a go.

It is growing here on campus and it should even more in the coming years.
