Detroit Mercy’s Center for Career and Professional Development offers help to students and alumni – everything from resume advice to career placement.
Located in Reno Hall 143, the center strives to help students achieve educational goals, create career development skills and search for your career and or internship opportunities.
Career Services coordinator Gene LaPouttre and other staff members are at the center to help advise you how to succeed in job searches, internships and co-ops.
The center runs mock interviews to build communication skills and confidence, as well as reviews resumes.
Using the career center website, you can sign up for a Titan Career Link, which gets you access to many features.
“Students from freshmen to seniors and alumni can use our program,” LaPouttre said. “We have opportunities locally in Detroit and nationally.”
The career center welcomes walk-ins, appointments, phone calls (313-993-1448) and contact through the website, www.udmercy.edu/cec.

“It is a great place to find employment,” said student Debra Wilson.
Throughout the year, the career center hosts workshops, employment information sessions and career fairs.
Upcoming events include a Sept. 19 resume basics workshop and an Oct. 5 a interview/professional attire workshop.
“I went to a resume workshop,” said student Alexia Mantzopoulos. “They gave me a lot of helpful advice.”
The resume workshops offer different ways to enhance your resume and get you prepared to make a best first impression.
Students will learn what resume trackers are and what they are looking for, and how to make resumes that stand out from the rest.
The center can help international students as well, helping explore immigration options and paths to follow for employment while in school and after graduation.
Christen Kemp, a student studying nursing, has used the center’s services.
“I found a helpful health care chain during a workshop I never would have know about otherwise,” Kemp said.
The workshops are free and many offer snacks and refreshments, while attempting to help you “build a boundless future.”
