With eight games played, the Detroit Mercy Titans men’s team have won four games and have lost four, already winning half of the games we won all season last year.

The guys have worked extremely hard throughout the summer and fall to prepare for this season and you can see things really starting to click.

“This year it just feels different, we know what we worked for and how much we put into this season and we are not going to let anyone take that from us,” senior guard Dre Black said. “We are just a different team from last year.”

We were ranked No. 4 in the Horizon League preseason poll. That’s three slots higher than we were last year but is not something that we’re are focused on.

“Of course we feel that we are the best, but we don’t care anything about what people have to say before the season,” Sophomore guard Corey Allen said. “We just focus on every game that is at hand at try our best to win that, we just take it one game at a time.”

The Titans have had some flashes of things to be excited about, things such as setting a school record of 25 steals in a game in the win over Sienna Heights. We  also scored 131 points that game which is the third most in Titans history.

People are excited to see what we are going to do this year.

The titans currently being ranked first in scoring in the Horizon League and seventh in the nation are making people extremely anxious to see what we can do as we continue to play for the rest of the season.

The excitement for our 2017-18 season is expected and embraced by the team and we plan on continuing to get better every single day to bring that winning culture back to Detroit Mercy basketball.
