Author Ibram Kendi to speak Monday at Detroit Mercy

On February 20, 2018

National Book Award-winning author Dr. Ibram X. Kendi will speak Monday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. in the student center ballroom.

Kendi wrote “Stamped From the Beginning: A Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America.”

Though admission is free, tickets are limited and required for the event, which is part of Detroit Mercy’s Black History Month celebration.

The author challenges deeply held and often progressive assumptions.

He voyages through the history of U.S. political rhetoric, beginning with Cotton Mather and ending with hip-hop, arguing that even the most fervent anti-racists have been infected with a resilient virus.

“Kendi’s lectures are sharp, informative and hopeful, and serve as a strong platform for any institution’s discussions on racial discrimination,” stated a university release.
