Time to binge: shows for break

Spring break offers a great opportunity to binge-watch shows.

The VN asked seven Detroit Mercy students who know a thing or two about the subject what to watch over the spring break.

Shelby Harris, a dental hygiene student, recommends “The Office.”

She knows many people are familiar with the show – and for a good reason, she believes.

“There are a lot of people who binge watch it and I despise anyone who doesn’t,” she said with a laugh. She added that she likes to watch it due to its “stellar memes.”

Much like Harris, Sara Wesley, a biology major, also watches “The Office” but her reply for watching was that it takes away the pain from reality – and that it’s entertaining.

Katarzyna Kochaniewicz, another biology major, binge watches many things, including the “Harry Potter” series.

But most recently she also has been watching “The Office.”

Kochaniewicz knows it’s a very common thing to find others who binge watch it, and she believes it’s a bonding experience to watch and communicate with others.

“I enjoyed ‘The Office’ because it was an eye-opener to how much life can change and how we can miss all of the little details if we don’t pay attention,” she said. “In the last episode, the cast were really appreciative of the camera crew because they had the opportunity to reminisce on memories and regular people don’t get that.”

Paige Fairchild, a student in the five-year MBA program, likes to binge watch “Breaking Bad.”

Fairchild joked that the reason she watches it was the drugs.

Actually, though, she watches it due to the suspense and drama.

A student of industrial organizational psychology, Madison Scarsella said she binge-watches many shows, including “Parks and Recreation,” “Friends” and “Dating Around.”

“The shows are very funny, and lighten my mood when I’m stressed from school,” she said.

Jenna Giordano, a dental hygiene student, likes to watch “Drugs Inc.”

Giordano said that she doesn’t know many other people who watch it but the show doesn’t have the same thing every episode, making it intriguing to her. Plus, it has a lot of information on real-life stuff.

For Jency Shanji, another biology major, “Brooklyn 99” is her preference.

She finds it’s hilarious and that’s why she watches it.
