The Titans track teams have quite the journey ahead as they continue into their outdoor spring schedule.

As conference championships at the end of February near, they will be looking to up their performance to get into position to compete for the championship.

The men’s team is young. Many members are freshmen or sophomores.

Many people may see this as a downside, but the program sees it as a positive as these members bring fresh legs and confidence.

The men’s  team is coming off a great start with multiple individuals finishing within the top 10 at every event so far.

Their next event will be held at Grand Valley State Feb. 14-15.

The women’s program has also seen quite a roster revamp, adding 11 freshmen – more than half of the team.

Mya Reese, a transfer from Grand Valley State, is enjoying her first year as part of the track team.

“Coming here a year late was intimidating both competitively and socially but as soon as we started to practice, everybody was super sweet and welcoming,” said Reese.

Reese believes that the Titans have a real shot both individually and as a team because they have been putting in the hard work.

She believes the team, being so young, will impress a lot of people.

Guy Murray coaches both the men’s and women’s programs.

He is entering his 27th year with the track and field program at Detroit Mercy.

Murray has led the program to many Horizon League appearances and has always had the team finish in the top half of the standings.

He has led  a successful program for many years, and he has built a legacy here.
