Detroit Mercy has one of the lowest numbers of confirmed Covid-19 cases among Michigan universities, according to a health official.
Since March, Detroit Mercy has seen 20 cases, according to Annamaria Silveri, director of the Wellness Center on campus.
The majority of students who tested positive do not reside on campus, she said.
Currently, no testing is being done on campus.
Anyone who shows symptoms and reaches out is referred to the local practitioners, she said.
After quarantine procedures are followed, a student is allowed back on campus.
The Wellness Center is regularly putting out information that is easily accessible to anyone online.
The health platform includes a link to a survey students can fill out to get directions from the Wellness Center.
“We’re social distancing, washing hands and we have a good chance of protecting ourselves from the virus,” said Silveri.
The Wellness Center deals mostly with students, who are generally young and not as vulnerable, she noted.
But they can always carry the virus to vulnerable populations. Therefore, college students have a big responsibility to keep the community safe, she said.
The health clinic is open every day of the week.
Schedule details are available on the school website.
The center still offers regular services, such as physicals, vaccinations and flu shots.
Personal counseling has been especially busy during the pandemic, said Silveri.
Health care professionals are noticing a lot of cases of anxiety and fear-based sadness and disappointment.
Counselors are available to help anyone cope with what they’re facing.
Appointments can be made via email or phone.
The Wellness Center has a presence on Facebook and Instagram as well.
