A local guide to a perfect Valentine’s Day

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, finding the perfect place to spend time with your significant other might be a top priority, especially with coronavirus-related staffing shortages and social distancing rules.

If you’re looking for a few spots near Detroit Mercy, consider the following:

-Do you or your significant other have a sweet tooth? Head over to Detroit Cookie Company. These freshly baked cookies don’t compare to others; they are freshly baked each day, offering over 20 cookie flavors daily. The flavors are mostly Detroit famous flavors. The price range is $2-$5 a cookie, or $12 for half a dozen. If you can’t be with your significant other on February 14th, you can even ship cookies their way, or buy cookie dough for them to make the cookies themselves.

-If you’re a more active couple who enjoy a lively activity, check out the ice-skating rink at Campus Martius in downtown Detroit. This can also be a fun activity with a couple of friends. The rink and the surrounding area is beautifully lit up in dazzling lights, and the tickets to skate are $11 per person. “Parc” restaurant is located right next to the rink, if you’d rather grab a bite and watch the skaters or enjoy one-on-one time.

-If art is your thing, you can never go wrong with a visit to the Detroit Institute of Arts. It is home to one of the largest, most significant art collections in the United States. It holds more than 65,000 artworks from the earliest civilizations to the present day. With over 100 galleries, your creative side may be inspired! You can visit the D.I.A for $14 per person.

-Looking for time together to enjoy the outdoors? Dress up warm and visit the Detroit riverfront. Enjoy a brisk walk overlooking the large river for all, or just part, of the riverwalk’s six miles. If you go at night, you can enjoy all the lights lit up over the water. If you are into Italian cuisine, Andiamo Italian Restaurant is located in the Renaissance Center building and overlooks the river.
