Bike rides, bonfires and basketball on tap for Homecoming

The University of Detroit Mercy’s annual Homecoming celebration will take place next week with three days of bike rides, bonfires and basketball.

The events run from Thursday, Sept. 29, to Saturday, Oct.1, across the McNichols campus.

Homecoming kicks off Thursday evening with the Alumni Achieve- ment Spirit awards in the student union ballroom, where the university will recognize distinguished gradu- ates from each of its colleges.

On Friday, there’s a Titan Slam monologue preliminary competition in Life Sciences 113. Students are invited to register to compete for up to $2,000 in cash prizes.

Following the competition, the university will celebrate “Hoop Night in the D” at Calihan Hall, where fans will be introduced to the members of the 2022-23 men’s and women’s basketball teams while enjoying food and beverages.

The night ends in parking lot G with a Titan Tailgate and bonfire featuring food trucks, music, refresh- ments and a warm bonfire.

Saturday is also filled with events, including the Tour de Titan bike ride, which includes a tour of the university’s historic surrounding neighborhoods. All levels of cyclists are encouraged to join.

There’s a handful of events taking place that day across campus, includ- ing a softball tournament at 2 p.m. and the Titan Slam monologue finals back in Life Sciences 113.

The women’s soccer team plays Green Bay in a Horizon League contest at 4 p.m. at Titan Field.

General admission to Homecoming is one non-perishable food or personal hygiene item per person for the University of Detroit Mercy Food Pantry.

Most events are free, unless otherwise listed on udmercy.edu.
