The University of Detroit Mercy’s annual “Day of Giving” will take place Tuesday, Sept. 27, with trivia, presentations, food and other activ- ities to help celebrate, and educate students about, the importance of philanthropy.

The day-long events — in-person and virtual— are sponsored by the Student Alumni Leadership Coun- cil’s philanthropy committee as well as Alumni Relations.

“It is my hope that the Day of Giving will educate Detroit Mercy students about the importance of philanthropy,” said Jackie Elliot, assistant director of annual giving and lead organizer of the event. “Whether you are sharing a skill, volunteering your time or making a financial contribution, all philanthro- py is important and combined with gifts from others is significant and impactful.”

As in the past, there will be a passport program for students to participate in and win prizes.

If they complete and submit proof of various activities, they could win Detroit Mercy stickers, water bottles and t-shirts. The more you partici- pate and the more proof you submit, the more prizes and raffle tickets you earn.

The in-person events will begin at 11 a.m., which will start outside the dining hall where students will be able to grab a cup of cider and test their knowledge about philan- thropy at Detroit Mercy. At 12 p.m., students can go to the Fountain Lounge to write a thank-you note to a donor and receive lunch in return, which they can take to a subsequent presentation by a current Detroit Mercy student.

The last in-person event will conclude back at the dining Hall at 4:30 p.m., with more free cider and trivia.
