New faces making early impact for Titans
The men’s basketball season is underway and Titan fans are getting their first look at some new players. Only four student-athletes from last year’s squad have returned: Antoine Davis, Jamail Pink, Jordan Phillips and Kyle LeGreair. Davis is the lone returning starter.
The team features nine transfers and six graduate students, tied with Notre Dame for most grad students in the country.
Here’s a look at some of the new faces.
Jayden Stone is a recent transfer from Grand Canyon University,
located in Phoenix, where he played in 30 games over two seasons. Stone achieved a 39.3 field goal percentage while shooting 82.1 percent at the free-throw line. His career-high in points was 14, against Abilene Christian.
He’s had a strong start so far this season, beating his former career-high in points in each of the Ti- tans’ first three games. He scored 15 points and added 12 rebounds in the first game against Rochester, had 22 points against Boston College, and tallied 15 points and five rebounds against Ohio.
Damezi Anderson is also looking to make a big impact on the team.
Anderson is a graduate student and recent transfer from Loyola Chicago, where he appeared in 39 games during two seasons, averaging 2.1 points per game.
Anderson ranked highly coming out of high school, but failed to live up to that at Loyola. It’s been a different story so far at Detroit Mercy.
In Anderson’s first three games as a Titan, he put up 17 points and nine rebounds against Rochester, 11 points and four rebounds against Boston College, and 15 points and four rebounds against Ohio.
Safe to say Anderson has found his home.
