Provocative Princess Diana Interview Discovered

(NAPSI)—She was known as “the people’s princess” and one of most famous women on earth, mourned worldwide at the end of her short life. But there was a lot more to Diana, Princess of Wales than many people realize.

Now, in what would have been her 60th birthday year, people around the globe are dedicated Diana fans, even those who weren’t born when Lady Diana married her Prince Charming in 1981. Few, however, know the story of how she went from “shy Di” to global icon. One person with particularly good insight into just how Diana was plucked from obscurity to become the mother of a future King of England, is her former neighbor, Danae Brook.

The Neighbor Who Knew Her

Back in 1980, Danae was a young journalist living next door to Diana and her roommates in London’s fashionable Earls Court neighborhood. Because of this connection, and her proximity, Danae secured the first ever interview with Diana—an interview that until now has been lost in the archives.

In November 1980, newspapers suggested Diana had crept on to the royal train for a secret pre-marital tryst with Charles. To defend her honor, Diana hit back with her first-ever press retaliation (of which there would be many more in the coming years). In that interview, she made it very clear that she had been picked as a potential bride for Charles “because I haven’t got a background of leaping in and out of bed with people.” She went on to say “that’s what everybody else seems to have. I mean, I haven’t had a chance to have a background like that…I am only nineteen.”

And Then The Wedding

Three months later, she was engaged to Charles after only thirteen dates (some chaperoned by his grandmother, the Queen Mother) and the rest, as they say, is history.
