A sense of relief spread through a gathered crowd last week after a suicidal student came down safely from atop a UDM building.
On Wednesday, Nov. 11, a student was spotted atop the powerhouse near the base of the clock tower.
“The department contacted the Detroit police and fire departments to assist in helping the student down safely,” Department of Public Safety Chief Letitia Williams said in a statement. “Following a conversation, the student voluntarily agreed to re-enter the building.”
The incident occurred around 3 p.m.
“At this time, appropriate support is being offered to the student,” Williams said.
During the incident, a crowd of concerned onlookers, including UDM President Antoine Garabaldi and Provost Pam Zarkowski, gathered outside the building.
It remains unclear how the student gained access to the rooftop.
