Spring-break fun: some hitting road

With spring break – March 6-11 – steadily approaching, some students already have made plans for their time away from their studies.

Student-athlete Kacper Stelmaszak told The Varsity News that he will be traveling with the tennis team to Georgia for a tournament.

“Although not exactly a vacation, I’m glad I get to spend sometime away with friends,” Stelmaszak said.

Student Melisa Ramirez has plans to travel Omaha, Neb., to sightsee with friends and family.

She said she has been meaning to visit the area for sometime and finally has the chance to do so.

Other students mentioned even more ambitious travel plans.

Architecture student Jason Tran is going all the way to Australia to visit his sister, who moved there last semester.

“I don’t get many chances to travel, so this will definitely be one for the books,” Tran said.

Similarly, architecture student Manny Pilah hopes to go on an adventure, too.

“I’m considering going back to Nigeria for break but it all depends on availability of flights,” he said.

Flying to and from Nigeria isn’t very feasible for Pilah but he said he looks forward to having the opportunity.

Senior Ashe’ Lewis will be traveling to Cancun, Mexico, with her family for break.

She is looking forward to escaping Midwest temperatures.

“I love the Detroit area but this time of year I’ll take any chance to get out of here,” said Lewis.

Many students, of course, will be staying around town.

Logan Kaiser, an architecture student, hopes to make frequent visits to Pine Knob to snowboard through break.

“Because of school I don’t get very many chances to go snowboarding,” he said, “so I’ll spend the majority of break trying to catch up on time lost.”
