Homecoming set to bring Detroit Mercy alums back to campus

The University is just days away from the 2023 Homecoming, and there is much to look forward to during the two-day long celebration. An invite has been extended to all in the Detroit Mercy family and community who would like to join in the fall festivities taking place on the Sept. 29 and 30.

Friday night marks the start of homecoming weekend with this year’s Spirit Awards and Alumni Dinner, followed by a full day of activities and campus events that will take place until 10:30 p.m. on Saturday.

“Invite everybody, bring your friends, anyone who wants to be included is welcome, and it’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Director of Alumni Relations, Peggy Pattinson, who is now coordinating her eighth Fall homecoming for the school.

Come Saturday morning, the campus will be filled with an assortment of options for everyone to explore and enjoy. A rock wall, petting zoo, games with prizes, and Mexican food trucks are among the few. Not to mention, all food and activities will be free for those in attendance.

Additionally, a Men’s soccer game and “Battle of the Bands” are set to take place for those who wish to show support for the team and the several high school bands joining us to compete.

New to this year’s homecoming itinerary is the university bonfire. As the festival winds down, everyone is invited to head over to parking lot A to relax around the fire and make smore’s or grab some cider and donuts.

Several university departments, student volunteers, and alumni have devoted their time and efforts to curate a fun-filled, action-packed 2023 homecoming.

“I’m excited to see what’s going on early in the event through my volunteering,” senior Kyle Legreair said. “I look forward to making it a welcoming and great experience for everyone that plans on coming.”

After the recent return to campus life, this upcoming celebration is a perfect excuse to take a break and connect with the community.

Registration for the event is open to all on the university website along with additional information including times, locations, and updates.
