OPINION: Detroit Tigers show promise in 2024

It is officially baseball season in Detroit and the Tigers are heating up in the first month of their season. The Tigers started off their season strong and began with a noticeably good record.  

The Tigers were the last team undefeated in Major League Baseball before facing the New York Mets and dropping that game 2-1.  

This was the first loss of their season, and the city of Detroit did not look back, still supporting their Tigers.  

The Tigers had their home opener on April 5, beating the Athletics 5-4, which shot a sliver of hope back into Detroit. 

The show out for the home opener of 2024 was very promising. Though since that game, the Tigers have posted a losing record.  

Even with the losses starting up, the city of Detroit has been booming with support since the start of their season.  

After a successful season with the Lions, Detroit has shown an overwhelming amount of support for its sports teams.  

Tens of thousands of fans showed up to support their Tigers in their close win over the Athletics on Opening Day. Some fans even took the day off work to attend the game on April 5. 

Fans are still feeling hopeful for a successful season from the Tigers with their young and power hitting offense. 

Though the team’s record has leveled off in April, many players in the starting lineup that are succeeding.  

Third basemen Gio Urshela and first baseman Spencer Torkelson are off to hot starts.  

Though one of the most impressive parts of the Tigers is their pitching this season. Shelby Miller  and Matt Manning have been unexpected surprises thus far. 

Detroit is excited for the Tigers to be back in action for the 2024 season. Fans have filled Comerica Park since the home opener on April 5.  

The Tigers have shown promising signs of a good season, but they must keep their offense in check if the success is going to continue.
