As the 2024 calendar year winds down, Detroit Mercy students are looking back at an eventful year on campus. With an eye toward the New Year, here are some of the best memories for Titans students.
Freshman Deanna Jarbo:
“I would say getting Starbucks and studying with my friends during any downtime.”
Senior Mina Schultz:
“I think my highlights on campus were spending time with all of my friends in the library between classes and going to my sorority meetings and seeing all of my sisters every week.”
Sophomore Cole Hostetler:
“A couple of the highlights on campus this year would have been the basketball games in Calihan Hall, especially the win in February against IU Indy, as well as well as the win over Niagara just in this past month. Another highlight of this year would be welcoming in the new class of 2028 students to campus.”
Senior Joey Schmaltz:
“I would say club sports, TDR with friends, study groups in the library with friends, also doing service work for the school is always fun also, going to basketball games and other sports games is always a lot of fun.”
Junior Haley Gavigan:
“I was so honored to represent the Film Club on campus at the Student Organization Leadership Conference! I believe the event was such a success because of the people there. I remembered so many members of the student body, and I got to meet even more of them as time went on. There’s such a wide range of student groups on campus, and to greet all of them was such a treat for me.”
Senior Jasmin Parker:
“The highlights on campus for me were going to the men’s and women’s basketball games. I work in admissions, so another highlight was our visit day events, seeing all the prospective students and talking to their families were nice. Also, my self-care and spirituality class and family violence class were highlights for me because those classes were very insightful and helped me see many different aspects of life from different perspectives, and professors Joiner and Howard were amazing professors.”
Senior Abby Karjala:
“I really enjoyed Safety Street, as all the student organizations are in one area and because we get the chance to interact with the community and talk to children in the area and bring joy during Halloween.”
Junior Raneen Hanna:
“Joining clubs or doing fun activities like sports or hobbies was a great way to enjoy time. Hanging out at the student center or grabbing food at nearby places was a big part of student life. Watching sports, like basketball or soccer, was a fun way to take a break and cheer on the school teams.”
Sophomore Abby Gradowski
“I would say that some of the highlights at UDM this semester would be the organization fair for students to be part of organizations and make friends… for freshmen, they had PTV and orientation to get ready for college and a tour around campus. And de-stress events to help students de-stress before finals. I would also say some of the trivia activities they had throughout the semester and different sporting events occurred throughout this semester.”
Junior Morgen Rhodes:
“Homecoming weekend was one the best for me, especially the bonfire and Fall Festival; it was such a fun way to relax and connect with everyone. International Night was another favorite. The food was amazing, and it’s such a cool experience to see the different sides of my peers as they share their cultures, from dances to traditional dishes. I also really enjoyed watching the Ethics Bowl. Law Day was another highlight for students, for sure—we had law school representatives from Wayne State to Harvard there to watch. I’ve always loved moot courts in the political science and pre-law departments, so that was definitely a fun experience”
