UDM math professor releases thrilling debut novel

Most students know Associate Professor Jeffe Boats as the brilliant but approachable mathematics professor who can solve complex equations. But outside the classroom, Professor Boats has been solving a different kind of puzzle—the twists and turns of his debut thriller novel “Blood Game.”

In a captivating blend of academia and storytelling, Boats unveiled his debut novel, “Blood Game,” on Feb. 4, offering readers a thrilling escape from the classroom into the realms of suspense and intrigue.

Drawing inspiration from his father’s love for action thrillers, Boats crafted “Blood Game” with the heartfelt intention of creating a narrative that would make him proud, all while featuring underrepresented characters that reflect a diverse and dynamic world.

In this gripping new novel, readers will follow the journey of a young man on the autism spectrum who defies the odds to become a CIA operative. Growing up in a small town, he always felt like an outsider, struggling to navigate a world that often misunderstood him. However, his keen intelligence and unique abilities caught the attention of the CIA, leading to his recruitment.

Diversity takes center stage as all the main characters come from underrepresented communities. The story highlights individuals who often get overlooked in mainstream narratives, bringing fresh perspectives to the world of espionage.

After eight years of rigorous training and intelligence work, he is presented with the opportunity of a lifetime—a high-stakes mission involving a looming terrorist attack. Despite his skills, the mission is far from easy. He must battle not only external threats but also the personal obstacles that have challenged him throughout his life. The novel delves deep into his struggles, highlighting his perseverance, resilience and determination to get the job done.

This compelling story sheds light on the challenges faced by individuals on the autism spectrum, particularly in high-pressure environments. It is a tale of courage, growth and the power of perseverance, proving that true strength lies in overcoming one’s greatest weaknesses.

Boats had advice for aspiring authors wanting to publish a novel.

“Never lose your passion, never lose your confidence in yourself, and learn to deal with rejection, defeat, and there’s an awful lot of ghosting,” Boats said.” It’s going to be really hard. Don’t give up.”

For those looking for a gripping thriller with a fresh perspective, “Blood Game” is available for purchase on Amazon, Apple Books and other major platforms.
