Detroit Mercy leading scorer explains decision to return

As I sit back and reflect on my journey, I realize how much basketball has shaped who I am. It’s been a crazy ride full of ups, downs and unexpected turns. But after much thought and countless conversations with my family, coaches and teammates, I made the decision to enter the men’s basketball transfer portal and, ultimately, come back to Detroit Mercy for another season. This wasn’t an easy choice, and it’s one that comes from a place of growth, gratitude and a desire to continue building on what we’ve started.

First and foremost, the opportunity to play at Detroit Mercy has been nothing short of incredible. The love and support I’ve received from the fans, the coaching staff and my teammates have meant the world to me. When I initially joined the team, I knew it was going to be a challenge, but I was excited for the potential of what we could achieve together. Over the years, I’ve watched the program grow, and I’ve been proud to be part of that. There’s a special bond between all of us on the team, and that’s something you can’t take for granted. It’s something I want to build on and contribute to even more.

When I entered the transfer portal, I did it with an open mind. I wanted to explore all of my options and weigh the possibilities for my future. It’s natural to question where you fit in and where you can continue growing as a player and as a person. I had some great conversations with different schools and coaches, and it was amazing to see how many people believed in me and my game. But after reflecting on everything, I realized something that’s been true all along—I have unfinished business here at Detroit Mercy.

There’s a lot of potential on this team. I believe we’re capable of achieving something special, and I want to be part of that. The culture we’ve built under Coach Monty [Montgomery] has been incredible, and I feel like we’re on the verge of something bigger. The way this program pushes you to be your best, both on and off the court, is something I truly appreciate. It’s a place where I’ve been able to grow and find my rhythm as a player, and I’m excited to see how much further I can go with this team.

My decision to return is also a personal one. Detroit Mercy is home to me. I’ve created friendships that go beyond basketball, and that’s something that can’t be overlooked. The people here have supported me through thick and thin, and that’s why I feel a deep sense of loyalty to the program and to the city of Detroit.

I’m excited to put in the work this offseason and come back better than ever. We’ve got a lot to prove, and I’m ready to do whatever it takes to help this team succeed. So, for all the fans, my teammates and everyone who’s supported me along the way, thank you. I’m coming back to Detroit Mercy, and I’m ready to finish what we started. Let’s make this season one to remember.
