Steve Corder, the UDM compliance director, has dedicated over two decades to the University of Detroit Mercy, a testament to his commitment to the institution. This year, his accomplishments reached new heights as he became a part of the NCAA Division I council.
Corder said, “As the UDM compliance director, my primary focus is ensuring that our athletic programs abide by NCAA regulations and guidelines and I also work closely with coaches, student-athletes, and staff to maintain compliance in various aspects of collegiate athletics, such as recruiting, eligibility, and financial aid.”
In this role, he contributes to the decision-making process for D1 athletics. They discuss and make crucial choices that affect the future of collegiate sports, including rule changes, financial matters, and championship hostings.
Corder said of his new role, “Joining the NCAA Division I council is indeed an honor.”
According to Corder, there have been many great moments, but seeing student-athletes succeed both academically and athletically is his favorite. It's really satisfying for him to witness them excel in their sports and earn their degrees, setting a standard of excellence for the university.

Corder’s participation in the NCAA D1 council is a huge advantage for UDM. It enables the campus to have a voice in the decisions that shape D1 collegiate athletics.
Vowels added that “his experience on the council ensures that our perspectives are well-represented.”
